The Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, is a fortress and palace in the Tibetan Capital of Lhasa. It was the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas, religious heads of Tibet, from 1649 until 1959. The current Dalai Lama does not reside here but rather in India in exile.
